Peacock Raises Subscription Prices
Peacock has some bad news for subscribers today. The streamer is notifying existing customers of the subscription price increase on August 17 starting at 12:00 pm EDT. This change will immediately affect new customers. This is the first time Peacock has seen a price increase since its introduction.
Users will pay from $4.99 per month for Premium (ad-supported) to $5.99 per month. Meanwhile, Premium Plus (no ads) will increase by $2 to $11.99 per month.
According to the company, the main motivation for this change is to keep investing. in providing high quality content and improving the user experience. Raising subscription prices will also allow Peacock to remain competitive in the marketplace, especially with competitors like Netflix and Max charging up to $19.99 per month. Paramount+ level with Showtime for $11.99.
Peacock has released over 80,000 hours of content since its launch in 2020, according to the company.
The price increase comes after the company reported a loss of $704 million in the first quarter of 2023, compared to $456 million in the same period a year earlier.
To make a profit, Peacock dropped the free offer and removed the option for new customers. In addition, the ad support tier will no longer be provided to Xfinity customers for free.
