Sony Pictures has announced production on a film adaptation of the cult video game series Metal Gear Solid. Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, directors of the horror film ‘Final Destination: Blood Ties’, have been commissioned to develop the project based on Hideo Kojima’s franchise.

In 2014, Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts joined the MGS adaptation. The script was completed in 2018, and in 2020, Dune star Oscar Isaac was cast in the lead role.

Since then, nothing has been heard about the project, but according to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, citing official statements from Sony Pictures, the film is still alive, or rather, reborn.

Columbia Pictures is producing the Metal Gear Solid film, with Avi Arad and Ari Arad serving as producers. Details of the film (plot, cast, release date) have not been revealed.

The Metal Gear series remains one of the most renowned in the gaming industry, with sales of over 65 million copies. The last main installment was released in 2015.
