Microsoft Introduces Copilot Tasks

Microsoft has announced a beta version of a new AI system called Copilot Tasks, which the company says is designed to perform everyday tasks for users in the background.

Copilot Tasks is a smart to-do list that runs itself. You can set a task or several tasks (for example, “find train tickets, prepare a presentation for a meeting, check email and reply to everyone”), and Copilot will create an action plan, break the task down into steps, and begin executing them. You can review the plan, make edits, or clarify the conditions as needed.

The key feature of Copilot Tasks is its background operation. While you’re busy, Copilot will automatically open web pages, place orders, coordinate data between apps, create documents, update your schedule, send emails, and even communicate with other users. The service is designed for recurring and scheduled tasks, such as price monitoring, collecting information, preparing reports, or sending regular notifications. Microsoft emphasizes that Copilot Tasks will not perform important actions, such as paying for purchases or transferring money, without the user’s consent.

Microsoft noted that Copilot Tasks will require user permission to perform “meaningful actions” on their behalf, including making payments and sending messages. Copilot Tasks is currently available only to a small group of testers.
