In Dubai, Uber unveiled its Uber Air flying taxi service. The service will be integrated into the standard Uber mobile app. Renting an air taxi will be as easy as summoning a car to your door—with a single tap. However, the air taxis will only travel between their own ports, so you won’t be able to take them anywhere. However, for certain routes, they will offer significant time savings—that’s the goal.

Joby is a manned, all-electric, six-rotor eVTOL aircraft designed for four passengers and a pilot. The company claims it can reach speeds of up to 200 mph (approximately 320 km/h) and fly up to 100 miles (160 km) on a single charge. Unlike conventional helicopters, the aircraft is significantly quieter and produces no emissions during operation.

The Uber app will offer one-tap booking of air taxi services. Passengers will open the Uber app and enter their destination. If air taxi services are available, Uber Air by Joby will appear as an option in the app. Passengers will confirm the route with a single tap, and the app will book each leg of the trip.

Uber Black will provide ground transportation to the vertiport, and the Joby eVTOL will take passengers to the takeoff pad closest to their final destination. The app will also book additional ground transportation as needed after your air taxi flight.

In the future, Uber Air plans to expand beyond Dubai to New York, Los Angeles, the UK, Japan, and other countries and metropolitan areas. The project combines ground and air transportation into a single ecosystem, making travel faster, greener, and more accessible.
