Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has long been interested in space exploration, so it was only a matter of time before he launched his own satellite communications provider. Blue Origin’s TeraWave satellite network, announced today, is designed to provide corporate clients with data transfer rates of up to 6 Tbps.

Unlike mass-market services like Starlink, TeraWave is targeted at enterprise customers, data centers, and government agencies that require guaranteed, high-speed connectivity for mission-critical operations.

The constellation will consist of 5,408 satellites in low and medium Earth orbit, interconnected by radio and optical links. This architecture will enable the construction of ultra-fast communication channels between large hubs and remote access points where fiber optic installation is economically unviable or technically challenging.

Bezos’s aerospace business is generally developing successfully. The third launch of the New Glenn heavy-lift rocket is expected this year to send a robotic vehicle to the lunar surface. In the field of satellite communications, Bezos’s empire is now targeting the corporate market, announcing the launch of the TeraWave network.
