iFixit Launches New App With AI Assistant To Make DIY Smartphone Repairs Easier

iFixit, a resource for DIY electronics repair guides and tools, has released an updated mobile app for iOS and Android. It features a comprehensive library of repair guides, a battery health monitoring feature, and an AI-powered bot, FixBot, designed to help people with DIY repairs.

The redesigned iFixit app is powered by a comprehensive collection of repair manuals tailored to the specific needs of mobile devices. Users can save devices they’re interested in as “favorites” for quick access to relevant manuals and purchase necessary parts and tools directly within the app.

Using FixBot’s chat feature, users describe a problem with their device. For example, they might complain about their phone suddenly cutting out when the battery reaches 30%, their washing machine refusing to drain, or their lawn mower not showing any signs of life. The bot then asks a series of questions to narrow the search and eliminate unlikely solutions, then identifies the root cause of the problem. It then suggests a list of necessary replacement parts and provides detailed troubleshooting guidance.

FixBot is currently available for free, but voice control and document uploading will eventually be available only with a $4.99 per month subscription, and the free plan will have some limitations.
