Xiaomi has shifted its usual release dates for new models and is moving straight from the Xiaomi 15 generation to the new Xiaomi 17 series, which is the same numbering as the iPhone lineup. The company plans to introduce the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max this month to directly compete with Apple for premium smartphone market share.
The new series will include three models: the base Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. All devices will be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. According to leaks, the Xiaomi 17 Pro will get a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and a 1/2.51-inch sensor, while the Pro Max model will be equipped with an improved 5x telephoto lens with a 1/1.98-inch sensor.
Lu Weibing described the upcoming launch as “the biggest leap in the history of Xiaomi’s digital series.” He also noted that the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will be “the most powerful flagship in Xiaomi’s history.”
Xiaomi’s president has openly admitted that the company is targeting Apple and aiming to compete with the iPhone at the same level. The global release of the Xiaomi 17 series is expected in February or March 2026, while the Ultra model may appear in the first quarter of 2026.
Xiaomi strives to offer great value for money across all product categories, from smartphones and laptops to kitchen appliances.
