YouTube TV Update Allows Viewers To Watch Up To Four Live Streams At The Same Time
YouTube TV, Google’s version of cable TV, will soon allow viewers to watch up to four live streams at the same time with a new feature called “Tile Mode”. This is revealed in a non-public presentation that Google gave to its smart TV hardware partners, in which the search giant also discussed upcoming optimizations for YouTube Shorts on the big screen, as well as new YouTube Music features.
The feature will likely be tested on Android TVs. Over time, “mosaic mode” may appear in smart TVs from Samsung and LG.
Other new features described in the presentation include the optimization of YouTube Shorts on large screens.
The report suggests that designers of the YouTube Shorts interface on smart TVs may eventually do away with the scroll bar used to scroll through traditional YouTube videos, as well as offer quick access to like and dislike buttons.
The company believes that the change in interface will help Youtube win the fight against TikTok, which is increasingly penetrating the smart TV space (TikTok is now available on platforms of Samsung, LG, Google and Amazon).
