The Next Apple Smartwatch Will Detect Your Fever
According to Bloomberg columnist Mark Gurman, the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 will feature a body temperature sensor that can tell if you have a fever.
Gurman says that the watch will detect spikes in body temperature rather than give specific readings. If you have signs of a fever, Apple Watch Series 8 will prompt you to talk to your doctor or take your temperature with a thermometer.
Rumors about a new body temperature sensor have been circulating for more than a year. Gurman first pointed to the possibility in June 2021 and then dropped his prediction in January of this year. He then reversed course again in April, noting that a body temperature sensor could be expected “as early as this year.” Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also believes the sensor will debut later this year.
According to the reviewer, the body temperature sensor has yet to undergo internal testing, and if it does, Apple is expected to include this feature in the Watch Series 8, as well as rumored “protected” smartwatches for extreme athletes. However, the upcoming entry-level Apple Watch SE likely won’t have the sensor.
