The developers from the independent Czech studio Amanita Design (Machinarium, Botanicula, Chuchel) have announced the release date of their next game, the 3D adventure puzzle Phonopolis.

As it turns out, Phonopolis will be released on May 20, 2026, exclusively for PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), although the second teaser announced a multiplatform release. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer.

The story centers on an ordinary garbage collector named Felix, who unexpectedly becomes the only one aware of the threat of totalitarian control in the city. The premise, with the “Absolute Tone” transforming people into obedient servants, sounds almost like a classic dystopia—and for Amanita, this is a significant step toward a more straightforward, story-driven narrative.

The main difference from the studio’s previous games is the full voice acting. While projects like Machinarium previously relied on visual language, here the story is told through voice acting and dialogue. The music was composed by Tomasz Dvořák (Floex), and the sound design was completed by Matusz Godík—a hallmark of quality for the studio’s fans.

As a result, Phonopolis feels like an evolution of Amanita’s familiar formula: less abstraction, more storytelling and emotion. If the studio manages to maintain a balance between puzzles and story, this could be one of the most memorable indie games of the spring.

Ahead of its release, Phonopolis received a free demo (99% positive reviews on Steam) and was wishlisted by more than 100,000 Valve users.
