Meta Is Preparing Full-Fledged AR Glasses For 2027 That Will Display Holograms
Meta plans to release the first full-fledged AR glasses in 2027. According to the company, this will be its own “iPhone moment”.
This fall Meta and Luxottica (which owns the Ray-Ban brand) will release second-generation smart glasses, and third-generation glasses in 2025 will receive displays for viewing incoming text messages, real-time text translation, and other basic augmented reality functions. Such advanced smart glasses will be equipped with smart watches with a “neural interface”, it will allow, in particular, to use not only gestures, but also a virtual keyboard and even type text as quickly as on a real one. The smartwatch will, of course, have integration with social media and fitness apps, the developer doesn’t want users to choose between traditional smartwatches and augmented reality goggles.
But AR glasses with high performance will come later: in 2024, they will begin internal testing among Meta employees, and they will appear on the market no earlier than 2027.
