Ikea’s AR app Lets You Remove Existing Furniture

Ikea’s next generation augmented reality app has been announced and is a further development of the Ikea Place app first launched back in 2017. This latest version allows you to virtually remove existing furniture.

Apple told back in the summer of 2017 that Ikea was to be one of its launch partners for the augmented reality (AR) features introduced as part of iOS 11. Shortly after, Ikea Place officially announced allowing you to use the LIDAR scanner on your iPhone to view AR versions of the Ikea furniture in your home.

Ikea has gone one step further by allowing you to virtually remove existing furniture to start with an empty room that you can then start filling with Ikea furniture.

You will need an iPhone with a LIDAR scanner to get the most out of the app:

  • iphone 12 pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iphone 13 pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max

We’ll likely see more of these advanced AR features from Ikea and others thanks to the new RoomPlan API in iOS 16.
