Dutch Hacker Stole The Personal Data Of Almost All Citizens Of Austria 

A Dutch hacker, arrested in November, stole and sold the personal data of almost all Austrian citizens. The stolen information contained the full name, gender, full address and date of birth of millions of Austrians.

According to the police, in May 2020, a hacker put up personal data on an online forum for sale, presenting them as “the full name, gender, full address and date of birth of approximately every citizen” of Austria.

Investigators say there were about 9 million data sets in the database. The population of Austria is also about 9 million.

The hacker also put up for sale “similar datasets” from Italy, the Netherlands and Colombia.

The 25-year-old suspect, who was arrested in an Amsterdam apartment, was known to international police and was under investigation by Dutch police and the judiciary, according to Austrian police. The statement was published only now, so as not to interfere with the investigation. The police did not specify what consequences this crime has for the security of these Austrians.
