BMW Is Preparing A New Electric Car Based On The 5 Series

BMW i5 will be available in several versions with two body types – sedan and station wagon. The release of the electric car is planned for 2023-2024.

BMW CEO Oliver Zipse confirmed this information during the annual BMW conference. He also said that the i5 sedan will arrive this October along with the rest of the 5 Series models. In the spring of 2024, the Touring version will be the only all-electric model in the station wagon segment. The BMW 5 Series Touring is very popular, especially in Western Europe, and the new electric version will be a unique offering in this segment.

The technical parameters of the electric car based on the BMW 5-Series have not yet been made public, but, according to Autocar, the BMW i5 will receive power units from the BMW i4 electric car, which is already on sale. The new generation of BMW 5-Series will be built on an improved modification of the universal CLAR platform, which provides for the use of power units of any type. It is planned that the “five”, following the example of the new generation BMW 7-Series, will be sold with gasoline and hybrid engines, as well as as a “pure” electric car.

The new BMW 5 Series and all-electric i5 are almost here and the first teaser has been revealed to give you an idea of what this executive cabin will look like.
