Elon Musk Hints At Tesla And SpaceX Merger

Elon Musk hinted at a Tesla-SpaceX merger during his Q2 2026 earnings call, citing “increasing synergies” between the two companies he controls.
“As you can see from the numerous examples of collaboration with SpaceX, there’s increasing overlap (between the companies). You know, we can’t talk about merging companies and things like that at a conference call. That needs to be done through a more appropriate process,” the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla intriguingly stated at the latter’s earnings call. Tesla’s Chief Legal Officer, Brendon Ehrhart, quickly added that SpaceX is a “great partner” that provides “numerous beneficial synergies.”
These statements have given Deepwater Asset Management experts confidence that Tesla and SpaceX will merge in the next few years.
Yesterday, they estimated the probability of this happening at 80%, but today that figure has risen to 90%. Tesla already supplies SpaceX with batteries, company electric vehicles, and some technologies, and in the foreseeable future, both companies, with the support of Intel, are expected to establish mass production of chips using advanced lithography technologies. At the same time, analysts emphasize that the SpaceX-Tesla merger will face antitrust challenges, particularly in China, where the company’s largest auto assembly plant is located.
In June, SpaceX President and Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell said a merger between the companies “would probably make Elon’s life a little easier.”
