500 Drones Will Light Up NYC Sky Tonight
Gothamist, mobile app developer King and show host Pixis are launching a swarm of at least 500 LED drones over the New York skyline on Nov. 3 to promote Candy Crush. They’ll fly out of New Jersey and stay there for a 10-minute presentation, but you’ll notice them if you’re within a mile radius of Battery Park.
The drones will be launched across New Jersey’s Hudson River but can be seen after sunset from Lower Manhattan, which will be “turned into a carnival where spectators can enjoy this surreal takeover of the New York City skyline.” said in a press release.
According to Fernanda Romano, director of marketing for Candy Crush, this unusual project is the latest development in drone-assisted light shows, a fast-growing technology that allows companies to “turn the sky into the biggest screen on the planet.”
