YouTube Plans To Launch A Streaming Service Store

YouTube plans to launch an online video streaming service store, according to the Wall Street Journal. The company has resumed talks with entertainment companies to participate in the platform, which it calls a “channel store.”

YouTube is positioning its platform as a great way for companies to market their streaming services, as viewers can watch trailers for free on their website or app and then easily pay for a subscription. Partner companies will likely have to share their YouTube revenue for purchases made on the video platform.  YouTube, the post says, is already in discussions with them about how to split the subscription revenue, though the terms differ for each partner.

YouTube is already widely used and can provide paid users with a single platform to manage multiple subscriptions. For streaming providers, making their services more accessible could help them get through what analysts say will be a difficult year, marked by the loss of a significant number of users.

YouTube’s “channel store” could reportedly launch as early as this fall, although the company has yet to confirm that the project exists and is already in talks with potential partners.
