US iPhones 18 Pro Max Loose Connection: Apple To Replace The Smartphones

Apple has confirmed an issue affecting the iPhone 18 Pro Max on the AT&T network in the US. A small number of smartphones may completely lose cellular connectivity: users are unable to make calls, send messages, or use mobile data, and the device switches to SOS mode.
The issue affects only iPhone 18 Pro Max owners using the US carrier AT&T. On this network, the flagship smartphone may simply show no signal; text messages fail to go through, and mobile data is unavailable. AT&T has notified subscribers owning the iPhone 18 Pro Max that they must urgently update to iOS 27.0.1 and install a separate software update containing settings specific to the carrier’s network. These settings will download automatically to devices within 14 days, though the process can be manually triggered via the smartphone’s general settings menu.
Owners of affected devices are also unable to make emergency voice calls—but only if no other cellular networks are available in the area. The updates are being rolled out as a preventive measure to stop the issue from occurring for users who haven’t yet encountered it. If the problem has already manifested, however, attempting to install the updates or even switching to the iOS 27.2 beta will not resolve it. In such cases, Apple has committed to replacing defective iPhone 18 Pro Max units with functional ones at its own expense; affected users can also contact AT&T. It is emphasized that a hardware replacement is required, as software solutions cannot restore connectivity.
Apple has reported an issue specifically affecting the iPhone 18 Pro Max on the AT&T network. The company has not reported similar incidents in other countries or with other carriers, so it is unknown whether the problem might extend beyond the United States.
