TP-Link unveiled its first Wi-Fi 8 devices—the Archer 9 Ultra router and the Deco 8 Ultra mesh system. The company calls them the world’s first routers supporting the new standard. Sales are scheduled to begin on September 30.
TP-Link hasn’t revealed many details yet, but the Archer 8 Ultra is equipped with 18 internal antennas that deliver wireless speeds of up to 19 Gbps. It also supports wired speeds of up to 10 Gbps, although it’s unclear whether this applies to the WAN and LAN ports or just the LAN.
For users who require wider coverage, such as in larger homes or offices, TP-Link will offer the Deco 8 Ultra BN22000 tri-band mesh router, which delivers wireless speeds of up to 22 Gbps and wired speeds of 10 Gbps. TP-Link typically sells mesh systems in two- or three-unit configurations. A set of three Deco 8 Ultra BN22000 units will provide coverage of up to 910 m². Sales of the new product will begin in the first quarter of 2027.
TP-Link plans to expand its Wi-Fi 8-enabled device portfolio by the second quarter of next year. To this end, the vendor will release the Roam 8 router, as well as PCIe/USB adapters and other devices. Wi-Fi 8 should more effectively cope with interference, packet loss, and congestion when dealing with large numbers of devices. Particularly important is the development of MAPC (Multiple Access Points Cooperative Operation)—a technology for coordinating multiple access points that enables resource and interference management at the mesh network level.
