The Head Of Nokia Made The First Ever “Immersive” Phone Call
Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark made the first-ever “immersive” phone call using new Immersive Voice and Audio Services (IVAS) technology.
The call was made using a regular smartphone over a public 5G network. It is noteworthy that Lundmark called Stefan Lindström, responsible for digitalization and new technologies in Finland. “We’ve demonstrated the future of voice calling,” Lundmark said after the call ended. His experience in telecommunications is undeniable, as back in 1991 he was involved in making the first 2G voice call.
The technology, part of the 5G Advanced standard, provides spatial audio and significantly improves the quality of the audio experience.
It allows users to experience audio in real time, as if the other person is nearby. This can significantly improve not only personal, but also professional communication, as well as interaction in XR and the metaverse.
