Starline: A Hologram Video Chat Technology Developed By Google.
ast year, Google introduced Project Starline, a video chat booth that lets you chat with a realistic hologram in real time. It was revealed this week that the company will begin limited development testing and will install booths at corporate partners, including Salesforce, WeWork and T-Mobile.
It is assumed that it is enough to sit in the cab, and your image will be projected into another cab in real time, as if you were sitting at the same table. A touching Google video showed how Starline helped reunite families and friends. The virtual projections looked impressively believable.
The Starline project is actually a bid for a natural telepresence system. Each participant sits in a booth with multiple cameras and infrared projectors that create a realistic 3D image with spatial sound capture that makes it look like the voice is coming from the digital person’s mouth. Combined with head tracking and a 65-inch 8K glasses-free display, the system makes it look like another person is sitting in front of you. In theory, this results in easier meetings than if you were looking at a computer monitor through a webcam.
