Spacetop – A Laptop Without A Physical Screen, But With AR
Startup Sightful has taken an interesting approach to choosing a display for its new Spacetop laptop. He doesn’t have it at all: instead of a matrix, he comes with augmented reality glasses that broadcast a virtual desktop with a diagonal of 100″.
In terms of design, the device resembles a regular laptop without a lid. The headset shows a Full HD picture for each eye at a frequency of 72 Hz and is equipped with speakers
The device is an Arm-based business tool. The laptop runs Android open source OS (AOSP) and is equipped with a custom AR headset. Aside from the unusual silhouette, the Spacetop’s body is no different from a regular laptop – at least on the bottom. The body measures 26.6 cm wide and 25 cm deep and weighs 1.5 kg including the headset, which is very similar to a regular laptop. With the exception of a thickness of 4 cm, atypical for modern laptops. Notebooks are manufactured at the factory of the Chinese ODM manufacturer Wistron.
Spacetop is based on the Snapdragon 865 processor, the flagship mobile chip of 2019. The RAM size is 8 GB, the built-in storage has a capacity of 256 GB. Network capabilities are represented by 5G NR Sub-6, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 wireless modules. The webcam has a resolution of 2560 × 1920 pixels. The laptop has a built-in fingerprint scanner. There are two 10Gb/s USB-C ports that support the DisplayPort 1.4 standard, allowing you to use an external display if needed.
