Samsung is preparing to enter the AI smart glasses market with its first wearable eyewear, reportedly scheduled to go on sale in mid-December 2026. According to a report published by South Korean newspaper ChosunBiz on October 30, the initial release will be limited to South Korea and the United States.

The product, called Samsung Intelligent Eyewear, is being developed around Google’s Android XR platform and Gemini AI assistant. The glasses are designed to provide hands-free access to digital services without requiring users to take their smartphones out of their pockets.

What features will Samsung’s smart glasses offer?

Samsung’s AI glasses will combine conventional eyewear with cameras, microphones and built-in audio. Their main features are expected to include:

  • Real-time translation: Helping users understand conversations in foreign languages.
  • Voice navigation: Providing directions and location-based assistance.
  • AI-powered recognition: Using cameras to understand the wearer’s surroundings.
  • Smart note-taking: Capturing documents and meeting information and organising it in Samsung Notes.
  • Hands-free photography: Taking pictures directly through the glasses.

The device will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 processor and is expected to deliver up to nine hours of battery life on a single charge.

Samsung has also worked with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to develop four different design variations.

Release date and availability

According to the October 30 report, Samsung plans to start selling Intelligent Eyewear in mid-December 2026.

The United States and South Korea will receive the product first. Europe, Japan and China are excluded from the initial launch, with wider availability expected to be considered in 2027.

Samsung is reportedly taking a cautious approach, allowing the company to evaluate customer interest and feedback before expanding into additional markets.

How much will Samsung Intelligent Eyewear cost?

Samsung has not announced an official retail price as of November 3, 2026.

According to ChosunBiz, the final pricing is still under discussion. The company has previously described its upcoming glasses as a premium product that would nevertheless have a reasonable price.

For comparison, Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses start at approximately $299, while its more premium Oakley Meta Vanguard model costs around $499. Samsung’s final pricing will be an important factor in determining how competitive its first AI eyewear product can be.

Samsung takes on Meta

The launch represents Samsung’s attempt to challenge Meta’s growing presence in the smart glasses market.

By combining Google’s Gemini assistant, Android XR and established eyewear brands, Samsung hopes to make AI-powered glasses more practical for everyday use.

Unlike traditional augmented reality headsets, the first Intelligent Eyewear models are expected to focus on voice interactions and camera-based AI rather than a built-in display.

If the reported December launch goes ahead, Samsung will become another major technology company competing to make smart glasses a mainstream consumer product.
