OpenAI To Increase ChatGPT Subscription Prices

OpenAI plans to significantly increase the subscription price of its most popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, over the next five years. The price will increase from $20 to $22 per month by the end of this year, and will reach $44 by 2029, according to internal documents obtained by The New York Times.

In this regard, OpenAI is distributing a financial report to potential investors, which also outlines plans for the near future. According to OpenAI, its revenue in August more than tripled year-on-year. As of June, its services were used by about 350 million people, which is 3.5 times more than in March. The growth was achieved mainly due to the popularity of ChatGPT. The growth surge was recorded after it became possible to use the chatbot without creating an account or logging in. The company expects ChatGPT to bring in $2.7 billion in revenue this year, which is much higher than the $700 million in 2023. Another $1 billion will come from companies using its technology. At the same time, OpenAI is still unprofitable – it will lose $5 billion this year.

And by the end of 2024, OpenAI intends to launch ChatGPT-5, which promises a revolution in artificial intelligence. We are talking about the concept of artificial general intelligence (AGI). This means that AI will be able to learn any task that a person can come up with. This will make it indistinguishable from a person.
