OpenAI And Meta To Release AI Models With The Ability To Reason And Plan
The management of OpenAI and Meta reported that preparations are underway for the release of large next-generation language models – systems that are used in generative AI applications, including ChatGPT. Meta is preparing to release Llama 3 in the coming weeks, and the new OpenAI GPT-5 model will arrive “soon,” the company promised.
Meta will release its Llama 3 model in the coming weeks, and Microsoft-backed OpenAI plans to release a new GPT-5 model “soon.” Joëlle Pinault, Meta’s vice president of artificial intelligence research, told the newspaper that “we’re working to make sure that these models don’t just talk, but actually think and plan… That they have memory.”
The Meta and OpenAI projects will follow a wave of large language models released this year by Google, Anthropic and Cohere. Reasoning and planning abilities are important steps towards creating strong AI (Artificial General Intelligence – AGI) with human-level consciousness.
OpenAI Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap said the next generation of the GPT model will show significant improvements in the ability to solve “hard problems” that require reasoning.
