Ford Introduced The New Electric Explorer
Ford has introduced a new electric crossover Explorer EV. Despite the name related to the SUV of the same name, this is a completely different model, which has its own original appearance, a different interior and the German MEB modular platform from Volkswagen, designed specifically for electric vehicles.
In terms of wheelbase, the novelty is identical to the Volkswagen ID.4 platform crossover – 2.77 m, but at the same time inferior to it in length – 4.45 m versus 4.58 m. Overall width and height are 1.87 m (for ID.4 – 1.85 m) and 1.6 m (for ID.4 – 1.64 m), respectively, and this just explains that the body of the Ford is completely original, with more squat proportions. The interior of the electric car is notable for the huge 14.6-inch vertical display of the SYNC Move infotainment complex. This screen can be rotated 30 degrees, because right behind it is a roomy two-liter “cache”.
Ford did not provide detailed powertrain specifications, but said buyers will be able to choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, as well as charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes (using a DC fast charger). Data on the battery capacity is also not yet available, but for a similar Volkswagen ID.4 it is 62 and 82 kW / h. Sales of the electric Explorer will begin later this year, with a starting price of less than 45,000 euros. Over time, the company will launch another crossover on the VW MEB platform in Europe.
