ChatGPT Has Authored At Least 200 Books On Amazon’s Kindle Store
Amazon’s Kindle Store sells over 200 books written entirely or co-authored by AI. Most likely, the number of such books is actually much higher, since Amazon does not force writers to indicate such moments.
For example, a man named Brett Sheekler could never imagine that he could become an author, although he dreamed of it. After learning about the ChatGPT artificial intelligence program, Shikler decided to write a book using AI. Using AI software that can generate blocks of text from simple clues, Shikler created a 30-page illustrated children’s e-book in a matter of hours and put it up for sale in January through Amazon.com’s self-publishing department.
His book “Wise Little Squirrel: A Tale of Saving and Investment” is available on the Amazon Kindle store for $2.99 or $9.99 for the print version and has earned Shikler at least $100.
Now ChatGPT appears poised to upend the established book industry as would-be writers looking to make a quick buck are turning to the software to help create bot-generated e-books and publish them through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing arm. Illustrated children’s books are a favorite for such aspiring authors. There are hundreds of tutorials on YouTube, TikTok and Reddit demonstrating how to make a book in just a few hours. Topics include get-rich-quick schemes, diet tips, programming tips, and recipes.
