Blue Origin Announced Blue Ring
Blue Origin is introducing a multi-function platform for Earth orbit and beyond.
The company announced plans to create the Blue Ring space platform and the formation of a new business unit, In-Space Systems. The purpose of this division will be to promote comprehensive services for hosting, transportation, refueling, data relay and logistics, including even space cloud computing. In-Space Systems was headed by Blue Origin Senior Vice President for In-Space Systems Paul Ebertz.
The Blue Ring platform is capable of placing and launching satellites weighing up to 499 kg on the ESPA and ESPA Grande universal ports with a diameter of 38.1 and 60.96 cm, respectively, and can also secure a satellite weighing up to 2 tons on the upper deck.
A special feature of the platform is a hybrid chemical and solar-electric propulsion system developed by Blue Origin.
The commercial market is now more focused on sending payloads and satellites into predictable orbits. In the context of the dynamic development of the space services market, Blue Ring looks especially attractive due to its versatility.
The project will reportedly surpass all existing ESPA orbital vehicle, tug and propulsion concepts.
