Apple Bought Mira: Manufacturer of AR Headsets for the Military
Apple has confirmed the acquisition of Mira, an augmented reality startup that has contracts with the US military and makes headsets for Nintendo World theme parks.
The news comes a day after Apple announced its first $3,499 Vision Pro AR/VR headset. It is not known how much the purchase of Mira, which previously managed to raise about $17 million in funding, cost the iPhone manufacturer. Former Apple CEO of Design Jony Ive has been working with Mira for a while, according to the source.
Apple’s official comment on the matter did not disclose any details regarding the deal to buy Mira. “Apple periodically buys small technology companies, and usually we do not discuss our goals and plans,” Apple said in a statement. It is also not known whether Mira will continue to cooperate with the military after the transfer of the company under the control of Apple.
