Activision Explained Why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Takes Up 200 GB On Xbox

Next week there will be a full release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but now the story campaign of the game is available to buyers for pre-order. According to the Microsoft Store, players on Xbox consoles this year will have to download more than 200 GB if they want to install Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on their Xbox. The project size is approximately the same on other platforms.

Activision explained that the game takes up so much space due to the “increased amount of content” available on day one: zombie mode, backwards compatibility with items from Modern Warfare 2, map files for Warzone.

The company added that thanks to additional optimizations, the final installed file size of Modern Warfare 3 will be smaller than the “total size of previous Call of Duty releases.”

Activision notes that players will have the option of flexible installation of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. For example, it will be possible to install only the zombie mode or only the story campaign, without other components of the game. More detailed information will be shared by the release.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released on PC (Steam, Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S. Early access to the campaign will last until the release, which will take place on November 10.
