8BitDo Unveils Xbox-Inspired Gaming Keyboard
8BitDo has unveiled a new version of its retro mechanical keyboard, which has the style of the original Xbox gaming console from Microsoft. The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard – Xbox Edition is assembled in a translucent green case, but unlike the previous version, it is equipped with RGB backlighting.
In its new keyboard, 8BitDo decided to use the familiar shortened format of 87 keys with additional function buttons on the top panel. Among the latter, by the way, one of the innovations is hidden – a switch with the Xbox logo, launching the Windows Game Bar application. It is also known that the device is compatible with the proprietary Ultimate Software V2 software for setting up functions and recording macros.
The keyboard keys are based on Kailh Jellyfish X switches, are equipped with translucent two-layer ABS plastic keycaps and support eight RGB backlight modes at once, including animated effects. At the same time, the battery life of 2000 mAh is enough for 200 hours. Connection options include Bluetooth or a radio transmitter with a 2.4 GHz range and a USB-C port.
Before this, 8BitDo had already released gadgets in the style of old consoles. Thus, in March 2024, a mechanical keyboard in the style of a vintage Commodore 64 was released, and in August 2023, a retro keyboard with a twist on the NES.
