X To Get Video Calling Feature

The social network X (formerly Twitter) will add the function of video calls. This was announced by X CEO Linda Laccarino. “Soon you will be able to make video chat calls without sharing your phone number with anyone on the platform,” Laccarino told CNBC.

Video calls will be integrated into the Direct Messaging (DM) feature, so users will be able to video call each other without sharing their phone numbers. Video calling is part of Elon Musk’s plans to make X “the app for everything,” similar to China’s WeChat, a popular app in China.

The innovation is the next step in Elon Musk’s plan to turn Twitter into a universal super app. The platform already supports downloading long high-definition videos and subscriptions to individual authors, and a payment system will appear in the foreseeable future. Shortly before that, Andrea Conway, a designer at X, posted a cryptic post: “Just called someone on X,” and completed it with four exploding head emojis.
