VOLKSWAGEN And Ford Have Decided To Close The Argo AI Autopilot Project
Self-driving startup Argo AI will go out of business and its employees and parts will be handed over to its main backers, Ford Motor Co and Volkswagen AG.
In a series of tweets, Ford CEO Jim Farley said the decision to shut down Argo AI was due to a shift in focus towards Level 3 semi-autonomous driving systems.
The top executive is looking forward to bringing “many” former Argo AI employees on board so they can build the “amazing L3 BlueCruise system.
Ford said in a press release that they have made a “strategic decision to shift their investment from Argo AI’s advanced L4 driver assistance systems to L2+/L3 technology developed in-house.”
For its part, the Volkswagen Group said it was “consolidating” its autonomous driving efforts and would no longer invest in Argo AI.
