UK Launches Antitrust Probe Into Apple And Google

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an antitrust investigation against Apple and Google, which dominate cloud gaming and mobile browsers. This is stated in a statement published on the website of the British Cabinet.

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said on Tuesday that consultations held in June revealed “substantial grounds” for a fuller investigation into the matter and how the iPhone maker is restricting cloud gaming services through its app store.

“Many UK companies and web developers tell us they feel they are being held back by restrictions imposed by Apple and Google,” said Sarah Cardell, interim CEO of CMA.

“We plan to examine the extent to which the concerns expressed to us are justified, and, if so, identify steps to improve competition and innovation in these sectors,” she added.

In a comment regarding the launch of the official investigation, Google stated its commitment to building thriving, open platforms.
