Threads Engaged More Than 10 Million People

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday that 30 million people signed up for the app, including 10 million in the first seven hours of its launch on Wednesday in the US and more than 100 other countries, including the UK, Australia, Canada and Japan.

Threads is an Instagram-related app that Meta announced in October and has nearly two billion monthly active users. The new social media app allows users to create themed accounts with their Instagram username and connect with the people they follow on Instagram.

Our goal is to take the best parts of Instagram and create a new experience for text messaging, sharing thoughts and ideas,” Zuckerberg said in an Instagram post Wednesday night.

Meta integrates with ActivityPub, providing a seamless social media experience and allowing Threads users to move their accounts and followers to other ActivityPub-supported apps.

Meta’s new social network already has some early celebrity users, including Gordon Ramsay, Shakira, Stephen Bartlett, Gary Vee and more.  Moreover, a separate registration is not needed – if you have an Instagram account, then you are already registered and can use Threads. Your Instagram username will remain, but you can change it after setting up your account. By the way, you don’t have to search for the right people manually – you can follow the same accounts that you already follow on Instagram.
