Samsung and LG to Take Leading Positions in Global TV Market in 2024

Samsung and LG have confirmed their leadership in the global TV market in 2024, achieving significant success. According to a report from research company Omdia, Samsung has maintained its leadership in the global TV market for the 19th year in a row, while LG continues to dominate the OLED TV segment for the 12th year in a row.

Samsung’s market share in the global TV market in 2024 was 28.3% – the company retained the first place, which it took back in 2006. In the premium TV segment, that is, models priced from $2,500, the manufacturer got 49.6% of the market. Samsung’s share in the segment of TVs with a diagonal of 75 inches was 28.7%, and this is also first place in the world.

LG became the world leader in the OLED segment by the end of 2024, and this is the 12th year in a row. In the fourth quarter alone, LG sold 1.1 million OLED TVs, and for the entire past year, the company shipped 3.18 million units, which corresponds to a market share of 52.4%. In the category of OLED models with screens over 75 inches, the company won 57.5% of the world market. It is noted that the share of OLED TVs in the price segment of over $1,500 last year was 45%, which is 8.5 percentage points more than a year earlier. In the OLED segment, the share of TVs with screens over 75 inches reached a record 16%. The total volume of LG TV shipments, including OLED and LCD, amounted to 22.6 million units or 16.1% of the world market. By 2025, LG intends to increase its share of OLED TV shipments to 53.8%.

Both companies are reportedly continuing to innovate, with Samsung unveiling Vision AI technology at CES 2025 to improve the viewing experience, and LG introducing new wireless solutions and AI-powered platforms to improve picture quality.
