OpenAI Introduces Its Own Search Engine SearchGPT
On July 25, 2024, OpenAI unveiled an AI search engine called SearchGPT.
“We’re testing SearchGPT, which aims to combine the power of our AI models with information from the web to give you fast, timely answers with clear, relevant sources,” the announcement said.
It is known that for now, the new solution has been launched for testing among a small group of users and developers to get feedback. OpenAI noted that the best features of SearchGPT are planned to be integrated into the ChatGPT chatbot.
OpenAI has partnered with major news outlets to gain access to their content to train SearchGPT. The partners include such foreign publications as the Associated Press, Financial Times, Business Insider, Le Monde and others. Some deals have cost OpenAI millions of dollars. However, many media outlets are concerned about how artificial intelligence could affect their business. There are concerns that OpenAI or Google’s AI-powered search engines will provide brief but comprehensive answers, eliminating the need to click on links to sites, thus depriving publishers of traffic and, accordingly, advertising revenue.
The service will reportedly be free at launch, but may later feature advertising or other forms of monetization.
