One Of The US States Completely Banned TikTok
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte on Wednesday, May 17, signed into law a law to ban the Chinese social network TikTok. Thus, the state wants to protect residents from possible data collection by China.
App stores (App Store, Google Play) will be prohibited by law from offering TikTok for download to people in Montana. In case of violation of the norm, a fine of 10 thousand dollars is provided. At the same time, the law does not prohibit people who have already installed the application from using it.
Gianforte explains the decision to ban TikTok as a desire to “protect the personal and private data of Montana residents from the Chinese Communist Party.”
The state House of Representatives passed the bill in April, with 54 votes in favor and 43 against. Gianforte signed the bill on May 17. Once the law goes into effect, Montana will be the first state to ban TikTok on personal devices. As of December 2022, the app is banned from government devices.
