Mercedes-Benz CLA Concept

Mercedes-Benz unveiled its highly anticipated CLA electric sedan concept at IAA Mobility on Sunday. The Mercedes CLA concept is the new “one-liter car,” thanks to its advanced efficiency, enabling over 466 miles (750 km) WLTP range. It will be the first of the brand’s new entry-level EV class.

The CLA Class concept is almost the same size as the existing CLA sedan and uses an 800-volt architecture. It is equipped with a 235 hp rear engine and a new heat pump to maintain batteries in cold weather. The concept has a range of 750 kilometers, and fast charging allows you to add 321 kilometers of reserve in just 15 minutes.

If Mercedes keeps its promises, then the CLA will have more range than Tesla is offering. In addition, the self-driving mode will also be able to give battle to Elon Musk’s cars.

Inside, the concept car features a water-cooled processor, silver-colored leather seats and a “super screen” that spans the entire dashboard. The production version is expected with design touches similar to other Mercedes-Benz EQ electric models.

One of the features of the production version of the electric CLA is Level 3 automated driving. It will be available via over-the-air updates. Additional details regarding battery size, range and pricing will be revealed soon.

When a new production model comes out, don’t expect it to get the EQ branding. Reports indicate that Mercedes is moving away from its electric-only designation and is moving towards electrifying its entire lineup. Such moves are reported to begin in 2024, which coincides exactly with the launch of the next CLA-class in the future.
