Marvel Comics App Shutting Dow In June
Marvel announced today that their Marvel Comics app, which allowed readers to make in-app purchases and view their digital libraries, will likely be shutting down in June, with consumer accounts and libraries moving to Marvel Unlimited. The Marvel Comics app was the last digital comics reader to still run with the previous Comixology program prior to the controversial 4.0 migration to the Amazon Kindle infrastructure.
Android users who purchase digital comics through the Comixology Marvel Comics app can easily upgrade to the new version, and their comics should appear in Marvel Unlimited themselves. But iOS users have a few extra steps. First, you need to open the Comixology Marvel Comics app on your iPhone or iPad. Then follow Marvel’s instructions to link your Marvel account to the old app. After that, your old purchases should show up in Marvel Unlimited.
The reason for this transfer may well be that there is not a single Comixology team left to support the app — after the mass layoffs, only a small team is left to run the ship for the main Comixology app, which is now working on a completely different Kindle codebase.
