LG Display Unveils World’s First Stretchable Display
LG Display has unveiled an innovative stretchable display that could change the way we think about traditional screens. The device, which has a basic 12-inch diagonal, can stretch to 18 inches, or 50% more.
The stretchable display uses a special silicon substrate, a new wiring structure, and a light source based on 40-micrometer micro-LEDs. This approach makes it possible to create a panel that can display high-quality images even in adverse conditions and is resistant to external influences, including low and high temperatures. Stretchable displays are not only thin and light, they can also be attached to curved surfaces.
The technology for creating stretchable displays is considered a breakthrough, since such panels can freely transform into different shapes, including by stretching, folding and twisting. The 12-inch panel presented by LG can increase to 18 inches by stretching without compromising the quality of the transmitted image. At the same time, the pixel density of 100 ppi and the full range of RGB colors are maintained.
It is worth noting that, despite all the advantages, such displays are still in the development stage and are not ready for mass production. However, given the pace of technological development, we can assume that in the near future we will see these innovative screens in various devices.
