Jack Dorsey’s Alternative To Twitter Hits The App Store

Bluesky, a decentralized alternative to Twitter backed by Twitter co-founder and ex-CEO Jack Dorsey, has hit the iOS App Store. It is reported by TechCrunch.

The app is available in beta for testing by invitation only. According to the publication, since February 17, it has been downloaded about 2,000 times.

The social network works on the open standard Authenticated Transfer Protocol (AT), which assumes a decentralized social network.

AT Protocol is built around four main ideas: account mobility, algorithmic, performance and interaction. This structure is expected to help users easily transfer their account data to another Bluesky provider, as well as more control over the content that is displayed. Jack Dorsey was inspired by the idea of such a project after Twitter banned the account of former US President Donald Trump. According to Dorsey, BlueSky will reduce the possibility of abuse of power and regulation by similar centralized platforms that can decide who has a say and who does not.

The Bluesky app was originally available in a private developer beta in October, but now the company seems to want to expand testing to iOS device users. Those who wish can join the waiting list, however, when the application becomes public, it is not reported.
