Infinix Chameleon Smartphone At MWC 2024

At MWC 2024, Infinix showed a chameleon smartphone with a rear panel made using E-Color Shift technology. This is a color electronic ink display that can instantly change the design of a smartphone without the use of third-party accessories and other “crutches.” The company announced the new technology back in January, but only now publicly showed how it works.

The effect was achieved using E Ink Prism 3 technology – a similar one used in e-book screens. The technology is highly energy efficient: power is only required to change color, and when installed, the panel consumes nothing. The difference from the screens on e-readers is that the color on the back of the phone changes noticeably faster.

The technology is not tied to the rectangular shape of the screen segments – they can have arbitrary shapes, and in total there can be 60 or more customizable areas on the rear panel, Infinix added. Although the panel should not be considered as a full-fledged second screen either.

Infinix plans to increase the number of “pixels” to 60. At the same time, they will be able to serve as a notification indicator. The preliminary date for the appearance of the first production models with E-Color Shift technology is from one to two years.
