Disney Has Created A Neural Network That Easily Makes Actors Older Or Younger

Disney researchers have developed an artificial intelligence system that can visualize actors as older or younger. It only takes five seconds for the neural network to apply the effect to one frame.

To create the algorithm, the developers collected a database of thousands of randomly generated synthetic faces. They then used existing AI tools to age and rejuvenate the collected images.

After the results of the algorithms were used to train a new neural network called FRAN.

As a result, the tool, when given an input image of an actor, does not generate the entire head. Instead, it predicts which parts of the face will change with age. These results are then superimposed on the original image as a channel for additional visual information.

The researchers believe that FRAN will simplify the work of visual effects specialists and speed up the processing of frames from several weeks to a matter of hours.
