Apple Stopped Repairing The 1st Apple Watch, Including The $17,000 Gold Model
All first-generation Apple Watch models released in 2015 have been added to the list of end-of-life devices. This means that Apple and authorized service centers will no longer repair this watch.
Along with the basic versions of the Apple Watch, the list of obsolete devices included a model with an 18-karat gold case, which could be purchased for $17,000. Production of the Apple Watch with a gold case was discontinued in 2016. They were replaced by the Apple Watch Edition with a ceramic case costing $1,299. All other versions of the first generation Apple Watch with aluminum and steel cases and sizes of 38 and 42 mm are now also classified as obsolete.
Apple classifies a product as technologically obsolete if more than seven years have passed since the company stopped selling it. The original Apple Watch was discontinued in September 2016.
