Apple may launch a video intercom integrated into the Home ecosystem as early as this year. The device will feature advanced facial recognition and wireless electronic lock control.

Bloomberg was the first to report the development of such a device in late 2024. According to these reports, the intercom will be able to automatically unlock the door for residents after scanning their face, similar to unlocking an iPhone, while the video stream will be protected in accordance with Apple’s privacy policy.

After Amazon faced criticism for its promotion of the Search Party feature for Ring doorbells, the market situation began to shift in Apple’s favor. During the Super Bowl broadcast, Amazon demonstrated how its network of connected devices helps find lost dogs, but the initially positive message raised user concerns about the extent of video data collection.

Public backlash forced Amazon to change Ring’s privacy policy, which analysts believe weakened the brand and created an opportunity for Apple to enter the segment. Apple’s video doorbell, analysts believe, will benefit from the company’s long-standing reputation for privacy protection.
