Apple Announces macOS Sonoma With Desktop Widgets and Game Mode
The first feature that Apple talked about in detail was the new interactive widgets, which can now be placed directly on the desktop. Widgets blend into your desktop wallpaper so you don’t get in the way as you work, and thanks to Continuity, you can use iPhone widgets on your Mac.
macOS Sonoma also introduces advanced video conferencing features, including Presenter Overlay, allowing the user to display themselves in front of the content they are sharing. Reactions allow users to share their feelings during a video session, and screen sharing has been improved with a streamlined process.
Sonoma will also provide updates to the Apple Safari web browser. Web apps will now be able to work like normal macOS apps with notification support and the ability to pin them to the taskbar. Added support for profiles, allowing you to store cookies, browsing history, and tab groups separately depending on whether you are using a work or personal profile. Added private browsing windows for more reliable protection against surveillance. Apple has also made it easy to securely exchange keys and passwords through iCloud Keychain.
For gamers, macOS Sonoma has a new Game Mode that provides an optimized gaming experience with smoother and more stable frame rates. It greatly reduces audio lag with AirPods and reduces input lag with game controllers, and works with any Mac game.
