AMD Introduced New Chips For Computers With AI

AMD has announced a line of new Ryzen PRO series processors based on the 4 NM manufacturing process. The line is designed for both laptops (Ryzen PRO 8040) and desktop computers (Ryzen PRO 8000), offering a total of 16 processors.

AMD says its mobile processors, with 16 TOPS NPU performance, have a distinct advantage over competing Intel Core Ultra processors and are 5 TOPS faster than Meteor Lake. AMD also leads in combined CPU, integrated graphics, and NPU AI performance with 39 TOPS compared to 34 TOPS for Intel chips.

The Ryzen PRO 8040 laptop series is designed to meet the needs of two different markets. The HS series is designed for content creators and mobile workstation users and offers powerful processors such as the Ryzen 9 PRO 8945HS with 8 cores, 16 threads and clock speeds of 4.0-5.2 GHz. These HS series processors are capable of handling demanding tasks, but have higher power consumption, ranging from 35 to 54 W.

The U series is considered a more energy efficient option. Processors like the Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U and Ryzen 5 PRO 8640U have the same number of cores and clock speeds as the HS series, but have lower power consumption, ranging from 15 to 28 W.
