Amazon Kindle Scribe Gets A Major Update
Amazon has released a major update to its Kindle Scribe e-reader, the third update since it launched in November 2022. The update includes four new features, the most anticipated of which is “direct writing on page” support.
With the May OTA update, which Amazon calls “the latest update in its first series of ongoing improvements,” Kindle Scribe will now convert your handwritten notes to text when you export them to your computer. OCR conversion has been one of the most requested features of Scribe since its launch in November 2022.
The other most requested feature of Scribe was the ability to write directly into e-books, which involved both logistical and legal implementation challenges. With this Kindle Scribe update, some fixed-layout e-books will now be labeled “Book to Write” in the Kindle Store.
With these latest updates, Kindle Scribe is easier to recommend as an option for students and office workers, simply because you can easily convert handwritten notes to text or import Word and PDF files.
