Intel and ASUS Agree To Release And Support NUC Mini-Computers
Intel entered into an agreement with ASUS, under which the supply of existing models (based on 10, 11, 12 and 13 generation processors) and the development of new NUC PCs will be dealt with by this company.
Last week, Intel notified its partners that it was ending direct investment in the Next Unit of Compute (NUC) business. At the same time, the company said that the NUC product line will not cease to exist, but partners will now deal with it. In its latest press release, Intel notes that it has agreed to continue supporting the NUC platform with ASUS as part of a non-exclusive agreement.
“Under the proposed agreement, ASUS will receive a non-exclusive design license for the Intel NUC system product line, allowing it to manufacture and market 10th to 13th generation NUC system products and develop new designs for the platform. ASUS will also ensure product continuity and user support for Intel NUC systems. For these tasks, ASUS will create a new business unit called ASUS NUC BU,” Intel said in a press release.
Unfortunately, Intel’s statement does not make it clear what will happen to similar products from other manufacturers, such as the same company ASRock, which also produces compact computers under the NUC brand. Whether it will receive a similar license to further release its mini-PCs under the NUC brand is unknown.
